Who We Are The Grosse Pointe Social & Newcomers Club (GPSNC) began in 1945 when Mr. & Mrs. Bennett Burgoon and five others couples decided to create a social club for married couples living in the Grosse Pointes. Until a few years ago, membership was limited to true “newcomers” (couples who'd lived in the community only a couple of years), but the GPSNC now allows all Grosse Pointe married couples to join and expand their circles of friends. Over the years, the GPSNC membership has ranged in size from 50 to 100 couples. MembershipNew members are welcome to join at any time throughout the year, with annual renewal in the fall. The $40 Annual Membership Dues covers administrative costs such as our website, membership coordination, communications, and venue deposits. If you are interested in joining or know of prospective members, please contact us at:

Try us out! You are cordially invited to attend an event or two on a pay-as-you-go basis before committing to join. Social Events The GPSNC is your chance to try out local venues and visit clubs that are typically members-only. Events are held September through May and vary in cost from $40 to $120 per couple, per event. Venues, themes, refreshments and dress vary. One thing that never changes: the fun … and the group's desire to include new friends and neighbors from the area. Our premiere events are the Annual Holiday Gala in December and Annual Progressive Dinner in the spring. These events are a chance to celebrate the holiday season locally and to visit homes throughout the Pointes for a special meal catered by a local eatery. We also host Featherbowling at the Cadieux Cafe, Bowling at the Grosse Pointe Yacht Club, Wine Tastings and more. New reasons to gather are always welcome. In fact, thanks to the great response to our Summer 2006 Survey of Members' Interests, we have added a few new ideas into our calendar of events. Special Interests For a more intimate gathering, you may be interested in one of three special interest groups. Each meets regularly September-May and participation is on an as-you-like basis. Attend every gathering or just a few - it is up to you! Gourmet Enjoy some time together and treat your taste buds to something new. Generally held the 2nd Saturday of each month, the host home rotates, with the host designing the menu. Each couple brings a beverage to share and prepares an item on the menu to complement the main course provided by the host. Non-gourmands need not worry: the host provides the recipes. Euchre A couples group that meets the first Saturday evening of each month. This is a great chance for you to revisit the favorite game of Midwestern Universities – or to learn a new game in a friendly environment. The location rotates, with the host responsible for the main dish. Participation is $5 per person, with a chance to win it back, plus a dish to pass (appetizer, side dish or dessert) and a beverage to share. Texas Hold ‘'Em: The latest addition to our calendar, the group plans to gather in November and February. Family Events The GPSNC hosts events for the kids as well. Events range from apple picking to a breakfast with santa. Pointers of all ages are welcome, we have found that toddlers and younger children particularly enjoy these smaller-scale events. |
